As part of her aim to educate women as well as sensitize the public on the need to celebrate women and shun inequality, FASI Bauchi State Chapter visited Guru Community, Bauchi State to commemorate the 2022 International Women’s Day.
The IWD ’22 tagged “Break the Bias” implies that the society must continue to make a deliberate effort towards recognizing women and creating a more equal future.
The team engaged the Guru Community women on the need to be empowered and acquire skills to earn the society’s respect and be included in the socio-economic and political development of the country.
According to the team lead, gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessity so as to achieve peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
She stated that there is the need for more girls to go to school, ensure fewer girls forced into early marriage, engage women in the decision making processes of the country at all levels and ensure that laws are reformed to promote gender equality as well as end gender based violence in the society.
She stated further “We cannot clap with one hand, therefore there is the need to empower more women to achieve sustainable development at all levels.”
At the end of the visit, they encouraged the women to engage in activities that will improve their standard of living and boost the economy of the country.
