Over the years, the girl child has always been the agent of accusation, whenever an ill act that involves the two gender transpires. Regardless of the little or no support they receive in the society, the girl child are always saddled with lots of expectations, demands, and of course, condemnation.
Come to think of it, if a girl child is being given the same treatment a male child receives, would the world not be a better place? Would things not be fair, if the male child is also being saddled with the responsibility and expectations as the girl child?
Rape, amongst every other societal ills, damages a girl child more, and at the same time, leaves the same damaged girl alone with lots of blame to bear, while praising the culprit, as he goes scot-free.
There could be different sides to a rape case; but a NO can never means YES, and also, a NO will always mean NO.
Parents, and the society at large, should emphasize sex education on the girl child, but should extend it to the male child as well. Blames should be equally shared amongst the gender, without sense of being biased.
Gazes should be shifted to the male child as well, every male child should fully understand the fact that a lady’s dressing does not give him the consent to make sexual advances towards her. A male child should be trained on how to control his urge for sexual demands and to always respect a lady’s privacy.
Education for the girl child should be as essential as the male’s. The fact that a girl child would be getting married to another man later on, should not restrict them from having access to quality education, nor limit their academic journey to the basics.
A society filled with trained girls but wild boys, is as bad as not training the girls as well.
